The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze ward, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Smith Chiedoziem Anyanwu, was killed by a group of gunmen.
Dozie was shot dead on Wednesday, November 23, 2023, at his home and place of work.
He was killed in front of his wife, according to the report.
The party’s director of new media, Lancelot Obiak, admitted the incident to reporters in Owerri on Friday.
‘It is true that the incident happened. He was killed in front of his wife. According to witnesses, the killers were a pair of men and they were riding a motorcycle. When they arrived they met his wife and asked about her husband.
As soon as they saw her husband, they fired several shots, made sure he was out of breath, and then left.
The ward chief’s order shook the PDP family and his community to its very core, and his killing could not be more depressing, only after the party suffered a technical defeat in the November 11, 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.
But after the Imo State gubernatorial election, an unnamed party woman recently threatened to harm him.
Meanwhile, Emeka Chinedu, a federal lawmaker representing the good people of Ahiazu Mabais/Ezinihitte federal constituency, expressed shock and sadness at the death of Smith Chiedoziem Anyanwu.
Reacting to the situation on Thursday, Chinedu condemned the murder and said an urgent and professional investigation is needed.
Chinedu also extended his condolences to Smith’s family, friends, loving wife, children, and members of the People’s Democratic Party, saying the deceased was a beloved member of the federal electoral district and will be greatly missed.
He also urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact authorities as soon as possible
