NCC partners with Customs on border policing, anti-copyright piracy

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have increased their collaboration on border policing and innovative anti-copyright piracy methods.

Mrs Funmilayo Adewale, the NCC Director of Public Affairs, disclosed this in a statement released in Abuja on Friday.

Adewale said that the alliance would reinvigorate measures to stimulate innovation and enhance Nigeria’s creative economy.

She stated that the agreement was made during a courtesy visit to the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, in Abuja by the Director-General of NCC, Dr John Asein.

According to her, the leaders of both agencies recognise the strategic relevance of intellectual property, particularly copyright, to the country’s economy.

Adewale also bemoaned the harm caused by copyright pirates in the sector.

“The two agencies are commitment to introduce ICT driven proactive measures and enhance their operations through training and intelligence.

“Sharing as envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to check copyright piracy and other illicit activities in the copyright sector,” the NCC spokesperson said
