On Tuesday, November 21, Lukman Soladoye, a father of four, appeared before the Shariah Court in Magazine Gari, Kaduna, for beating his wife, Kemi Soladoye, and their four children.
Mr. Soladoye said that when his wife and children did wrong, he beat them to make it right, adding that he loves his family and wants the best for them.
Soladoye stated that when his wife and children did wrong, he beat them to make it right, adding that he loves his family and wants the best for them.
She prayed for the court to caution the defendant and his children to stop physically abusing them.
Judge Isyak Abdulrahman asked the defendant if he would promise to stop the violence against his wife and children, to which the defendant replied that he would stop the violence against his wife, not his children.
He said, “If your wife does something wrong, tell her about it and show your displeasure; if she does something wrong, tell her about it and show your displeasure.
As for the children, hitting is not the only way to correct them.”
The judge stated that the court would continue to monitor the defendant’s behavior and asked the plaintiff to report to the court if the defendant assaulted him again.
