Ten children who died in a boat accident in Niger State were given a mass Islamic burial last Thursday.
There were 34 people, including 10 children, on board the tragic boat that capsized last Thursday while en route from the terminal in Zangorobasa/Gukoki County to the Basewa/Kato District Terminal in Shiroro Local Government.
In an update published on Monday, November 20, Niger’s State Disaster Management Agency said a combination of water hyacinths, strong waves and drift caused the boat to capsize. Salihu Garba, NEMA’s Director of Emergency Management and Rehabilitation, said:
Ten people were killed including Farida Muntari, Sharhabila Sagir, Abubakar Sadiq, Naima Ibrahim, Amina, Safaratu Ibrahim, Sadiq Ibrahim, Rafia Yakubu and two unidentified victims. There were six drivers in the cargo including Dahiru Yusuf, Saidu Shuaibu, Ahmadu Garba, Saidu Garba, Abdulaziz Yahaya and Lukuman Sani.
He identified the survivors as Surajo Ibrahim (Zangoro), Ibrahim Wakili Nababa (Zangoro), Yahaya Yahuza (Zangoro), Murtala Sarki (Zangoro), Yakubu Hamza (Zangoro) and Sahabi Abdullahi (Zangoro).
