Lagos Government Arrested a Man for  Assaulting  a Firefighter

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has formally taken legal action against Waheed Balogun, 40, for alleged assault on a firefighter on official duty at 167, Egbe Street, Cele Egbe, Ikotun, Lagos, on Monday, October 1, 2023.

Olorade Agboola, Deputy Director of Public Relations, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Department, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, November 21, saying the suspect was arraigned before Justice A.A. Adesanya of the Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Oshodi District, the state.

According to Agboola, the suspect alleged that firefighters interfered with his tricycle/motorcycle park operations with a fire truck.

He was subsequently arrested last Thursday by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Crimes Task Force and is currently being prosecuted at the Lagos State Special Crimes (Mobile) Court in Bolaade, Oshodi, Lagos.

The presiding judge, Justice A.A. Adesanya, granted bail to the defendant, Balogun, in the sum of 200,000 naira, on payment of two sureties who meet the following conditions: resident of Lagos, public officer or clergyman, two years tax receipts, LASSRA card and National Identification Number (NIN).

The court adjourned the hearing until December 19, 2023.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Department, stressed that the case is one of the 12 cases of public obstruction against the department this year.

She stressed the agency’s unwavering commitment to comprehensive legal proceedings aimed at ensuring that justice is served and establishing a precedent that will deter similar acts in the future.
