The federal government, through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, has revoked 1,633 mining licenses granted to mining companies that violated them in the past.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake announced this on Tuesday, November 21, in Abuja.
The minister said the licenses of these mining concession holders were revoked for failure to pay the mandatory annual service fee of N1,500 per cadastral unit.
The Mining Land Registry recommended the revocation of the following 1,633 mining concessions: 536 exploration licenses, 279 quarry licenses, 787 small-scale mining licenses, and 31 mining leases.
Pursuant to the authority granted to me by Section 5(a) of the NMMA 2007, I have approved the revocation of 1,633 mining licences
