Mikel Obi spoke about the sense of entitlement that African families show when they earn money.
In a chat with former soccer player Rio Ferdinand, Obi revealed that families can become so greedy that they sometimes threaten the media with a bad image if they do not continue to provide financial support.
Using his own experience as an example, he said My own brothers and sisters threaten me.
He continued: “People from Africa, when they make money, it is not their money. Relatives, cousins, whatever.
The sisters marry men who just want to marry into John Obi Mikel’s family. And then they start taking care of that man. You’ll find out: …… They have many, many children. With all these kids, who’s going to take care of them? It’s you. You owe it to them.
So sometimes you have to be strong and say, ‘Enough. Enough.
They say things like, ‘If you don’t do it, we’ll sue you in the press.'”
The listener was shocked and asked Did you have that conversation?
Mikel replied, “Yes, we did.”
