Trending pictures shows Emefiele been moved to Kuje Prison.

Former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele has been transferred to Kuje Correctional Center.

Justice Hamza Muazu of the Abuja Federal Capital Territory High Court earlier today, November 17, ordered that former Central Bank Governor Emefiele be detained in Kuje Prison pending the determination of his bail application.

The federal government arraigned Emefiele on six charges related to the alleged fundraising. The original charges were 20 counts and N6.5 billion, but were reduced to six counts and N1.6 billion. Emefiele is the only defendant in the new indictment. According to the amended indictment, the charges still stem from procurement fraud.

The federal government alleges that defendant Emefiele illegally purchased 43 vehicles (worth $1.2 billion) between 2018 and 2020. He is also alleged to have awarded a procurement contract for 37 Toyota Hilux vehicles (worth N854 million).

When the charges were read, he pleaded not guilty.

Emefiele will remain in Kuje Prison until his bail application on November 22.
