Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has advocated for the resignation of both President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
In an interview on Arise Television, Baba-Ahmed asserted that Senate President Godswill Akpabio should oversee a new presidential election following the resignations of Tinubu and Shettima.
When questioned about the potential collaboration with Tinubu’s administration, Baba-Ahmed emphasized that both Tinubu and Shettima assumed office through fraudulent means after the 2023 presidential election.
Consequently, he stated that the Labour Party would not engage with what he considered an illegitimate government.
In his words, “Can Tinubu and Shettima just resign and let the Senate President conduct another election? They were fraudulently sworn in, and we will not work with an illegitimate government. If it is not constitutional, we are not touching it.”
His remarks follow a press conference by the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in which he accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Supreme Court of incompetence in handling election matters.
