The Banaskantha police in the Indian state of Gujarat have arrested Nwakaego Paul, a Nigerian national, and seized methamphetamine, a banned psychotropic drug worth Rs. 4.26 lakh.
Banaskantha Police Superintendent Akshayraj Makwana said in a statement on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, that the accused, a Delhi resident, was reportedly on his way to Mumbai to deliver the contraband.
The arrest was made late Tuesday, November 7, while Paul was traveling in a private luxury bus.
Based on a leading tip-off, police stopped the bus entering the state from Rajasthan at the Amirgadh checkpoint.
A search of the bus led to the discovery of 4.26 kg of methamphetamine in her possession.
Makwana stated that the accused had procured the drugs from undisclosed sources in Delhi. Further investigations are underway to uncover her connections and the source of the drugs.
Police investigations revealed that Nuwakaego Paul entered India in 2021 on a two-month visa and resided in Delhi’s Deepak Vihar area.
