LASU Removes Dean of Student for Alleged Certificate Abuse

Lagos State University, Ojo, has removed its Dean of Students, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko.

The report alleged that a certificate extortion syndicate sold genuine Lagos State University certificates to interested parties for between N2 million and N3 million depending on the course in question.

Two days after the report was published, Olumoko was ousted.

A source confirmed on Wednesday, November 8, that Olumoko had been ousted and that Dr. Abiodun Fatai Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, had been appointed as the new acting DSA.

The official said, “The DSA has indeed been removed. An official statement to that effect will be issued soon,” he said.

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday, November 7, summoned the Commissioner for Higher Education, Tolani Akibu, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, its Senate, and other senior officials over allegations of extortion and certificate robbery against the Lagos State University (LASU).

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mudasiru Obasa, requested on April 7 to invite the relevant authorities of the school to clarify the facts concerning the allegations to the school’s honor.

Obasa, an alumnus of the school, said, “I agree that the committee should invite the relevant authorities to clarify the facts concerning the allegations, but the school’s reputation should not be damaged for this purpose,” adding that if any suspicious persons are found, such persons should be sanctioned.

Councilor Owolabi Ajani submitted the motion as a matter of “urgent public importance” and told his fellow councilors that they need to invite the commissioners and the rector to the assembly to clarify the facts behind the allegations.
