The Federal Government has announced that N18.6 trillion is needed to address the road sector over the next four years.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made the disclosure in his budget reply to the House of Representatives Committee on Expenditure, chaired by Abubakar Biti, on the total N21 billion of the supplementary budget.
The Minister stated;
Overall, we need about N18.6 trillion to address the road sector over the next four years, and the National Assembly needs to think about how we can seriously address the road sector.
I also appeal to the National Assembly to ensure that the executive branch respects your motion on specific interventions. We must have contingency funds.
When I am asked to intervene on a collapsed road, I must liken the situation to a man on life support. That man needs immediate attention. There is an emergency, the roads are cut off, people are suffering, and movement has stopped.
So I appeal to the contingency to respect the instructions to resolve the emergency.”
