The federal high court in Abuja the FCT has given the former central Bank Governor (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, until January 25th 2024 to appear in court to explain circumstances surrounding the $53 million judgement debt arising from the Paris Club refund.

In a short rulling by Justice Iyang Ekwo on Tuesday 31st of October ,gave Emefiele another opportunity to appear in court in person or an arrest warrant to be issued against him.

This development followed a plea by Emefiele and CBN’s council, Audu Anuga SAN that all efforts to ensure that his client appeared in person on the order of the Court were unsuccessful as he was still in custody.

Anuga informed the court that an affidavit to showcase on on why arrest warrant should not be issued against Emefiele was filed on October 30th,223.

Justice Ekwo then asked S.A. Nnana the lawyer who represented Mr.joe AGI SAN,the judgement creditor/applicant in the suit if he has been served with affidavit.

Responding ,Nnana  confirmed that they were served on Monday at the close of work and that they would like to react.

The judge who cautioned Anuga against filling of processes that the matter came up on July 19.

The senior lawyer, however, explained that all efforts were made untill Friday October,27 to ensure Emefiele was released on order of the court but the order was not complied which promoted the filling of the affidavit.

But justice Ekwo insist in his rulling that Emefiele must appear in court in person on the next adjoined date .
