Multiple casualties are reported in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza after Israeli forces dropped four bombs on Tuesday, October 31
The Hamas-run Health Ministry and the director of a nearby Indonesian hospital said at least 50 people were killed. The ministry said the blasts were caused by Israeli airstrikes.
.
French news agency AFP sent a correspondent to the scene who, based on footage from the scene, said at least 47 bodies had been recovered from the rubble at the Jabalya blast site.
Photographs taken at the scene by a Reuters photographer show that a large area of the Jabalia refugee camp has been razed to the ground.
The photos show large impact craters scattered here and there, surrounded by concrete and steel debris from destroyed buildings.
In one building next to a crater, a surviving child is carried to safety by people from the top floor, while dozens of people search among the rubble for survivors.
Jabalia camp, north of Gaza City, is the largest of eight refugee camps in Gaza.
Refugees began settling in this camp after the 1948 war. It covers a small area of 1.4 square kilometers, but has a high population density and is mostly occupied by housing.
As of 2023/7, there were just over 116,000 Palestinian refugees registered with the UN.
The Israeli military had not yet commented on the explosion at the time of publication.
