Armed bandits attacked a checkpoint in Tsafeh municipality in Zamfara community and killed three policemen.
A source told Daily Trust that the policemen were conducting a checkpoint along the Huntoa-Gudau highway on Tuesday, October 31, when they were attacked by the bandits.
The driver of the police patrol van and five other officers fled into the bush for safety.
The driver was later found unconscious in the bushes and taken to Tsafeh General Hospital, but the whereabouts of the other five police officers could not be confirmed.
The driver is currently being treated at the hospital. At the time I went to the hospital he was still unconscious. He is unable to sit up properly.
The attack on the checkpoint, less than two kilometers from the town of Tsafeh, took place around 1:00 p.m. “The bandits left the checkpoint,” said the police officer.
The bandits left their motorcycles at a nearby farm, away from the checkpoint, and trekked from there, killing three people.
Another source said there were nine police officers on duty at the time of the attack.
‘I passed them a few minutes before the unfortunate attack. The incident occurred 30 minutes after I passed the checkpoint.”
