The Rivers State Government has denied reports that it has dismissed the Chief State Judge and the Chief Government Officials.
The dismissal reports follow the crisis that erupted in the state legislature on Monday, October 30, when a faction of the 32-member assembly, presided over by embattled Speaker Martins Amaehle, signed a notice of impeachment against Governor Ciminaraye Hvara.
Amidst the ongoing turmoil, it was reported that the state’s Judge Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, Chief of Staff Chidi Amadi, and 23 local government chairmen were dismissed by the governor.
On Tuesday, October 31, the state government denied this information through its Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joe Johnson.
This is to clarify that as of today, Tuesday, October 31, no such directive (to announce the decapitation) was issued by His Excellency to me, the official spokesman of the state government,” Johnson said in a statement signed in Port Harcourt.
‘Our dear Governor is an engineer with a solid civil service background, a kind-hearted and very humane man who does things in accordance with the established rules and in the fear of God.
I therefore ask the people of Rivers State and the general public to desist from these unconfirmed reports.
As Commissioner for Information and Communication, I will keep the public updated,” the statement said.
