The crises rocking Tansian University, Anambra State has taken a sharp turn as Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, aka Rojenny has written a petition to the National Universities Commission praying the Commision to compel the university to vacate his property in Oba, Anambra State.
In a petition made available to our correspondent and signed by Ezeonwuka, the billionaire sports enthusiast requested NUC to suspend addressing the Oba campus of the university as its take off campus, since series of crises rocking the school has necessitated that he and his organisation, Ranent Industries Limited withdraw all agreements with the school in order to recover it’s assets and debts.
In the petition, Ezeonwuka narrated how crises had continued to rock the school, since it’s establishment, and how it’s management had serially defaulted in agreements it signed with Ranent Industries which provided land and property for it’s take off.
Ezeonwuka also said the crises was later resolved sometime in 2010, and some new agreements were signed between his organisation and the institution, but that the current management has rescinded in its bid to swindle him of his monies and take over his property. He also hinted on an overwhelming corruption crises that is currently destroying the school, instituted by its current management, and called on NUC to…
Parts of the petition read
“NOTICE TO DESIST FROM REFERRING TO AND ADDRESSING THE PROPERTIES AND PREMISES OF RANENT INDUSTRIES COMPANY LTD OBA, IDIMILI SOUTH LGA IN ANAMBRA STATE AS A TAKEOFF CAMPUS AND/OR A CAMPUS OF TANSIAN UNIVERSITY
As you are already aware, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ranent Industries Company Ltd Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, obtained a judgment against Tansian University Umunya, Anambra State and a Writ of Execution to enforce possession of moveable and immoveable property and assets of the institution for sale to satisfy the judgment debt of to Ranent Industries Company Ltd being judgment of the His Lordship, Hon.Justice Arinze Akabua ofHigh Court ofIdemiliJudicial Division.(Annex-Judgment).
Magnanimously, we have given the University ample time to dismantle all academic and administrative programs in our facilities. We are writing to notify you that a campus of the University is no longer located in the premises of our facilities. Any further claim of the use of the facilities by the university should be disregarded.
Again, it may have come to your attention that Tansian University is experiencing deep commotion -a spillover from unresolved several crises which rocked the university on inception, following a breach of trust, betrayal of Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka who was the Financier of the University (Ref:NUC Approved Draft Academic Brief of Tansian University 2007), and contract scam by the University management. Again in the Draft Physical Masterplan 2007,Rojenny Games Village was captured as part of the University, notuntil Prof.Julius Okojie advised it would be expunged envisaging imminent crises.
The 2010 the University was marred by alleged assassination allegations, disruption of academic programs and administrative upheavals, and disgraced/sacked principal officers of the University which caused the NUC suspend the academic activities of the University in 2009 and subsequent suspension of its operational licensed in 2010.
As the impasse ensued over the ownership of the properties of the Ranent Industries Company Ltd which was used as Take-Off site and is being used a Campus of the University,Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, the Chairman of Ranent Industries Company Ltd withdraw the use of his facility. After several persuasions by Anambra State stakeholders, an agreement was reached to peacefully resolve the standoff which culminated into Consent Judgment between Tansian University and Ranent Industries Company Ltd. The Consent Judgment was signed by Rev. Msgr Prof. John Bosco Akam (Chancellor and Representing the Proprietor-Missionary Servants of the Church;Prof Nduka Uraih(Vice Chancellor Representing the University Community); Rev. Elijah Sende (Witness) Ranent Industries Company Ltd had,Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka(CEO and Representing Ranent Industries Company Ltd); Emmanuel Ejike (Representing Renant Industries Ltd) and Dr. Linus Uche (Witness). (Annex -Peace Committee Report)
The Consent Judgment was to be paying annual rent of N10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) to Ranent Industries Company Ltd. The then Executive Secretary Julius Okojie said that University cannot be sited in an encumbered or rented properties, and advised we should rephrase the Word “RENT”to “HONORARIUM” to conform to the laws establishing Universities in Nigeria. (Annex-Out of Court Settlement; and Consent Judgment).
Having satisfied all condition given, NUC reinstated the license and ordered academic activities to resume earnestly.(Annex-NUC Suspension Letter;NUC Reinstatement of Provisional License; NUC Forensic Auditors Report).
Over the years, the “Honorarium” was been paid without qualms until recently, when the University lawyer ordered the stoppage of the payment, challenging the Consent Judgment in Anambra High Court.
Fortunately, in judgment as attached we were ordered to eject the University from the premises of Ranent Industries Company Ltd and consequently granted Writ of Execution to enforce possession of moveable and immoveable property and assets of the institution for sale to satisfy the judgment debt of to Ranent Industries Company Ltd being judgment of the His Lordship,Hon. Justice Arinze Akabua of High Court ofIdemili Judicial Division.
It is on this premise that we request you disregard any claim that Tansian University has a Campus within the premises of Ranent Industries Company Ltd Oba,in Idemili LGA of Anambra State (Annex-Surveyed Plan,CoO).
Executive Secretary Sir, the tumult of the university in recently times is more alarming that the earlier periods. The current period is different – very problematic. The University today finds itself facing two distinct threats, which together represent the most serious challenge in decades.
The first threat is acute:a certain cabal trying to hijackthe University for themselves after the demise of the Founder,Msgr. Prof. John Bosco Akam- they are contesting the ownership ofthe University even though there is Last Will.
The second threat is chronic: Tansian University suffers from inefficient administrative patronage and a downward spiral of declining governance, autocratic drift and systemic corruption.
We do ourselves no favour to pretend all is well with the University. At all time they intend to defend their increasingly aggressive tactics by saying they are trying to protect the University values. In all cases, these claims rely on falsehoods. The divergent sense of crisis on left and right has weakened the University, and it has been exacerbated by current bankruptcy.
Without a doubt, gerrymandering makes things worse for the University. It stymies attempts to paint a positive image of the University – that is strained;deteriorated, increasingly dysfunctional is a disservice to Nigerians and Nigeria.
The University is in urgent need of reform to assure quality education of our children.
