Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, extended a formal apology to his superior, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, in an effort to diffuse the mounting tension between them.
Facing potential impeachment proceedings in the House of Assembly due to accusations of financial impropriety and other concerns, Aiyedatiwa took the opportunity to express his unwavering loyalty to Governor Akeredolu during a press conference held on Thursday.
Furthermore, he emphasized his dedication to advancing the development and prosperity of the state.
“Our beloved state has witnessed a series of events triggered by the health challenges faced by Mr Governor, which gave rise to misunderstandings, misconceptions, assumptions, and insinuations, and exploited by political contenders preparing for the upcoming 2024 gubernatorial election.
“It is in reference to the above that I hereby tender my unreserved apologies to Mr Governor and the good people of Ondo State, and I assure you that, together, we will both complete this journey with honour, divine guidance and in good health by the grace of God,” he said.
Aiyedatiwa applauded Akeredolu for his intervention and efforts in persuading state lawmakers to embrace a political solution proposed by the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress.
He refuted all the allegations circulating against him, claiming they were propagated by individuals desperate to remove him from office ahead of the governorship election in 2024.
