Actress-turned-politician, Tonto Dikeh, has disclosed the reasons behind her decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party led by President Bola Tinubu.

This momentous announcement came during a formal introduction as the party’s newest member, a ceremony that took place at the APC headquarters in Abuja on a Monday.

The event saw her welcomed into the party by Dr. Mary Alile, the national women leader, and Duro Mesdeko, the deputy national public secretary.

In a statement shared via Instagram on Tuesday, Tonto Dikeh said she believes “in the prosperity of Nigeria under the RENEWED HOPE AGENDA OF President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR” and she has been “presented with these facts, goals and vision of the current renewed hope agenda.”

The former deputy governorship candidate added that she has “decided to put emotions aside and continue to work for the greater good of the Nigerian youth, women and the country at large as I have always done through the Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS) platform in partnership with the Federal Government.”

“I have learnt over the years that impactful leadership comes from visionary leaders offering selfless service to humanity, i am all about the progress of my country, Nigeria, and the youths of this great nation at large.

“This is not a win for me alone but a win for our dreams, hope and struggles to ensure we make our unborn generation proud with good legacies.

“I am headstrong on for you Nigerians, and in due time, you will surely feel the positive impacts of my decision as it will be evident through us all,” the actress added.

Tonto was the deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State for the 2023 election.

She, however, stepped down from the race 48 hours before the election and declared her support for the APC governorship candidate Tonye Cole who lost to Siminialayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
