The Relevance Of High Religious Practices In Good Governance In Nigeria

By Obuo Chris

Following the headline news by vanguard newspaper, within the weekend which states that “NIGERIA is ranked the 2nd most prayerful country on earth”
The news headline trended with high reactions by Nigerians on social media.
Most Nigerians in their comments began to to evaluate the level and rate of Religious practices within the country. Some bagan to question it’s impact on the governance considering the fact that , Nigerians are yet to collectively boast of a good leader at all level of goverment
Since 1999.

Many in their comments on the global rating of Nigeria as the 2nd most prayerful country in the world, doubted if the high level of religion practices has ever aided a better governance system or administration at a time .

Some faulted this standard stating that , “Nigeria is the country solving her national problems via prayer. We fight corruption at all levels and all kinds vai prayers.” We have bad leaders who are looting our National treasury, we leave them and go out churches and mosques and pray for for them to change instead of holding them accountable.
Others in their contrary opinion to the headline ,faulted Nigerian for failure to embrace the technologically trend for improving the standard of living , instead “prayers” are used in place of technological innovations.
While some Nigerians argued that , prayer over times through high Religious practices has diverted most of the National conflicts which would had resulted to war as commonly witnessed by other countries.
Mr. Jonah in his comment argued that , prayer has been used as a Religious tool to blind fold Nigerians from demanding accountability and transparency from our leaders inclusive of the ones in Religion centres.

“There is no Nigerian Leader at all level who is not a member of one Religion or the other, yet they have not been good ,sincere and corruption free leaders. How on earth should one believe that ,high Religious practices play a positive role in good governance ” credited to Mr .Joe Adie .
It’s more clearer that bad leaders of our country hide under Religion and tribalism to ruine the country when they get into power.

According to Mr. Endurance who stated that , Nigeria should had been ranked number one instead of 2nd .He affirmed that Nigerians are doing so good in prayer life ,addressing most life challenging s via prayer . He further stated ,most natural disasters which occurr in other countries of the world don’t take place in Nigeria owing the effect of prayers. He couldn’t also justify the fact that high regions practices has afforded Nigeria a good governance.

The country’s leaders who are from various Religious and traditional backgrounds via their bad representative, show that , Religious teachings have not impacted them neither does the tradition nor tribal belief.
