Court Orders Arrest Of Ex-Deputy Gov. Agboola Ajayi Over Car Deal

A Magistrate Court convened in Akure, Ondo State, has issued a bench warrant for the apprehension of Agboola Ajayi, a former deputy governor of Ondo State.

Mr. Ajayi faces allegations of obtaining a brand new Toyota Camry valued at N5.4 million under false pretenses and committing theft in May 2018. These accusations stem from an incident involving Segun Adetuwo, who is widely recognized as Showboy.

Before the court, his two previous aides, Ogunmusi Samuel and Akintoye Olatunji, were brought to answer for their involvement in the case related to the vehicle.

In his testimony, Mr. Ogunmusi asserted that Ajayi had instructed him to accompany Akintoye to Adetuwo to collect the car.

He recounted that they retrieved the vehicle but departed without making any payment.

One of the charges against them reads, “That you Akintoye Olatunji, Ogunmusi Samuel and others now at large sometime in the month of May 2018 at Automart Akure in the Akure magisterial district did by false pretence and with intent to defraud obtain one brand new Black Toyota Camry XLE valued Five Million, Four Hundred Thousand Thousand Naira (N5,400,000) only property of one Segun Adetuwo and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1(1) (a)(c) and punishable under section 1(3) of the advance fee fraud and other fraud-related offences Act, laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2006.”

The prosecutor, Emmanuel Tanimowo, informed the court that Ajayi had not responded to the invitation to present his perspective on the incident.

Akintoye Omolegbon Odunsola’s legal counsel stated that they have been actively trying to establish contact with Ajayi and Adetuwo in an attempt to resolve the matter outside of court.

Magistrate Taiwo Lebi issued an order for Ajayi to either appear in court or provide a statement by November 24, 2023.

On June 21, 2020, Ajayi tendered his resignation from the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and joined the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He cited irreconcilable differences between himself and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as the reason for his defection.
