Islamic cleric Sheikh Aminu Baba Waziri has urged legislators to consider the implementation of a law that would require civil servants at Level 12 and above to consider taking additional wives.
This call was made during a sermon delivered at the Takur Commercial Mosque in Dutse, Jigawa State.
Sheikh Waziri emphasized the surplus of available women within society and urged men to contemplate the idea of marrying additional wives for the betterment of the community.
He expressed concern that despite the abundance of eligible women, including widows and those who seek marriage, many men, especially those already married, are not embracing the practice of polygamy.
The sheikh further clarified that in Islamic tradition, marriage is regarded as one of the most crucial institutions, with both the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) underscoring its significance and value in the eyes of Allah.
Citing the Holy Quran, he said: “Allah says in Chapter 4:3 “You fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or that which your right hands possess. That will be more suitable to prevent you from doing injustice.”
