On Saturday, October 14, the Kano state government performed a mass wedding ceremony for 1800 couples.
Widows and divorcees make up the majority of the beneficiaries.
The state government gave each groom’s bride nearly N50,000 in dowry during the Muslim cleric-officiated wedding ceremony.
Couples who participated in the mass wedding were also given a bed, food, and clothing; however, in the event of a divorce, the couple was required to reimburse the state government for the gifts.
The current governor made the wedding one of his top campaign promises.
