Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd), has categorically dismissed the false rumors circulating on social media suggesting his demise.
In a statement released on Monday night by Gowon’s personal aide, Adeyeye Ajayi, it was emphatically stated that the former military ruler is very much alive and in good health.
Ajayi further affirmed that, “General Gowon is not in a hurry to go anywhere.”
Furthermore, in a separate response to the baseless speculations, Kenneth Gbagi, the Social Democratic Party’s candidate in the Delta State gubernatorial race during the previous general election, also refuted the unfounded claims.
Speaking through his chief press secretary, Orusi Kenneth, on Monday, he labeled these rumors as the malicious work of troublemakers.
Gbagi disclosed that the former Head of State is alive, hale and hearty and presently in London.
Gbagi said: “General Gowon is still much around with us, hale and hearty. He is not in a hurry to go anywhere.
The former chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, who urged Nigerians to ignore the rumours about Gowon’s death said: “I, Gbagi, just spoke with him. I hereby refute the rumour of the death of my friend, General Gowon.
“He has communicated to Nigerians that he is still much around, hale and hearty. Gowon, is alive.”
