Nigerian marketers express concern over the lightness of petrol.

The lightness of the product in some retail outlets has alarmed by Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) marketers, who claim it falls short of the standard set by the Nigerian Midstream and Upstream Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The marketers claim that some of the petroleum products imported into Nigeria evaporate quickly.

The disclosure was made at the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA) in Abuja by Mr. John Keke Ocha, National Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

He claims that the importation of various goods to satisfy consumer demands has been made possible by the insufficient legitimate domestic refining of petroleum.

He stated:.

“The government must look inward to make sure that our refineries are used to make room for a reduction of these high petroleum product importation, as we are saying today, and that is what this house is praying for.

“Many people never use their vehicles again.

If you put N20,000 or N30,000 worth of fuel in your car, it will be gone in two days.

It may be evaporating, but I’m not sure.

“I sometimes wonder what happened to the N30,000 worth of fuel I purchased yesterday.

The fuel gauge has begun to turn red.

“I’m not sure if the product we now have is any different from the one we originally purchased.

“This is due to the fact that the competition has made it simple for importers to bring in very light and a variety of products. And because we have no other option, we accept it.

But if we produce it here, we will have a choice.

We will choose if we produce in this nation.

It will be even more affordable and competitive if we produce in this nation.

The government must examine itself and make life simple for citizens by ensuring refineries are set up and functional, according to the house’s prayer.
