Wike Inaugurates Panel to Investigate Death of Abuja 'One Chance' Victim

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is set to inaugurate a nine-member independent investigative panel on Thursday. The panel’s primary objective is to delve into the tragic death of Greatness Olorunfemi.

On September 26, the unfortunate incident occurred when 33-year-old Greatness Olorunfemi was forcibly ejected from a moving vehicle while traveling along the Maitama-Kubwa highway. The perpetrators are believed to be involved in the criminal activity commonly referred to as “one chance.”

Subsequent reports indicate that Good Samaritans rushed the victim to Maitama District Hospital; however, she tragically did not receive the necessary medical attention and passed away. It is worth noting that the hospital has vehemently denied any negligence.

In a statement issued by the office of the Mandate Secretary for Health Service and Environment Secretariat in the FCT, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, and endorsed by Assistant Director Badiru Yakassi, it has been confirmed that the investigative panel’s inauguration is scheduled for Thursday at 10 am at the secretariat.

The panel comprises the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDDAN), Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM); Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) and others.

Wike expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and assured that the investigation would be conducted transparently.

The statement said the findings of the panel would be made public.

Olorunfemi was the assistant secretary and public relations officer of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Abuja chapter. She was also a member of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) network.
