According to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), heavy floods are possible in 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday, September 28 and Friday, September 29 due to heavy rainfall
NiMet predicts that Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Enugu, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Abia will all experience heavy rainfall.
According to the forecast, there will be moderate to heavy rain in the following states: Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ebonyi, Kwara, and Benue.
Over the rest of the nation, very little to no rain is predicted.
Concerning infrastructure, NiMet added that people in affected states should turn off electrical appliances prior to the rain, rather than doing so during it, because strong winds can cause damage to weak buildings, trees, and masts.
According to NiMet, some flash flooding is anticipated over their areas of occurrence as a result of the anticipated moderate to heavy rainfall.
Furthermore, the agency issued a warning that the rains may be accompanied by strong winds, with the strongest winds predicted to blow over portions of Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi.
The agency issued a warning to the general public, particularly the driving population, not to drive through surface runoff waters because they have strong undercurrents.
It argued that other potential risks include slick road surfaces and decreased visibility during rain, both of which can cause traffic jams, and emphasized that it would be safer for everyone to resist the urge to drive through such surface water.
