In an auto-car accident in Cross River, a couple and their four children died.

In Cross River State’s Yakurr Local Government Area, tragedy struck the Ugep community when a family of six perished in a car accident on the Bekwara-Abochiche road.

Mr. Edet Eteng, his wife, Ikow, and four of his children perished in the car crash that happened over the weekend.

Reports state that the man and his wife’s bodies were taken to one of the hospital mortuaries in Ogoja LGA, while the four children were interred on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Ugep.

It was learned that Eteng and his family resided in Abuja and traveled to his hometown of Ugep to participate in the Leboku festival.

The victims’ car is said to have collided with an oncoming vehicle while they were traveling to Abuja, where they tragically passed away.

According to a witness, the accident happened when the car carrying the family veered out of its lane and struck the approaching car head-on.

As late Eteng recently lost his elderly mother just a few days after her birthday, other family members have been left in disbelief.

Two other occupants of the two vehicles involved in the tragedy were hurt, according to Istifanus Ibrahim, the Feral Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Cross River.

He claimed that the incident took place in the Bekwarra Local Government Area of the state near the Otokpuru axis, and that the victims were taken there.

Because of the distance between his post and the scene of the accident, he learned that overspeeding was likely the cause of the fatal accident from security guards and a good Samaritan who assisted in the rescue effort.

Six people lost their lives in the accident, including one adult male (father), Edet Eteng, one adult female (mother), and four children (three girls and one boy), all belonging to the same family.

Because a lot can happen that may be out of their control during this rainy season, road users, especially drivers, must as a matter of responsibility minimize speed, he continued.
