The Senate, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has vowed to deal decisively with any lecturer found to be involved in sexual harassment of female students.
There had been a recent move by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Esimone to install closed circuit cameras in lecturers’ offices.
The move had, however, been stoutly rejected by some lecturers, who cited the violation of their privacy.
But in a meeting of the Senate of the University, held on Wednesday, and whose resolution was obtained by DAILY POST, the Senate resolved to come down hard on lecturers found to be harassing female students for s*x.
The Senate also cautioned students against indecent dressing and other forms of provocations.
The report of the Senate as obtained by DAILY POST read: “Sexual defilement of students in the offices was reported to the Senate.
“It was resolved that to check the abominable act, the management should strictly adhere to punitive measures in line with the University laws.
“Lecturers were, therefore, warned not to indulge in such practices or face the wrath of the law. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
“The use of all forms of indecent dresses in the University is prohibited. Staff and students were requested to change their indecent dresses urgently. Punishment is one month of community service and expulsion if repeated and found guilty,” the resolution read.
The Senate also spoke against the direct sale of books by their authors to students, insisting that all books must be sold at the library
