MohBad Was Not Poisoned in Our Custody — NDLEA Spokesperson

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has refuted allegations that the late singer, Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, was subjected to poisoning while in their custody.

These assertions arose following the circulation of a video featuring the late artist, where he can be seen in a distressed state while hospitalized.

Within the video, Mohbad alleged that he had been mistreated and administered an unfamiliar substance during his time in NDLEA’s custody.

“I was made to drink a substance I knew nothing about, but every other person wasn’t given that same drink. They said I was always on drugs, I’ve always trusted them with my heart and that’s why they were able to do this to me. I saved Zinoleesky but they pointed a gun on my head! The same Zinoleesky now snitched on me and did me dirty. Heavenly father is my witness, I can’t lie against them,” he said in Yoruba.

In reaction, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said via X on Saturday night that the deceased was not one of the Marlian Music acts arrested by the agency in 2022, as speculated by many.

He added that this makes it impossible for MohBad to have been poisoned in their custody.

Mr Babafemi shared a link by an online news platform which detailed the arrest of six people, two females, and four males, in the persons of Oniyide Azeez (Zinoleesky), Owoeye Michael (m) and Abimbola Ogbe (m).

Others are Dominica Chinwe (f), Olaolohun Shubomi Mariam (f), and Ibrahim Alawo (m).

“This is an authentic account of the arrest and detention of some Malian artistes in Feb 2022, an incident that has now been twisted by purveyors of fake news to say Mohbad was poisoned or detained by the agency.

“I hope, they’ll be bold enough to defend their claims when the hand of the law catches them,” Babafemi tweeted.

Mohbad was confirmed dead by his family through a statement last Tuesday.

He was laid to rest on Wednesday in Ikorodu, Lagos.

On Thursday, the police released a statement, saying they would probe the death of the ‘Feel Good’ singer after his petition against Sam Larry, an associate of Naira Marley, over alleged assault surfaced on social media.
