Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his staff reportedly survived an airplane crash after the private jet they were traveling in caught fire just before takeoff.
A Bombadier Global Express 6000 owned by multi-billionaire businessman Chief Adedeji Adeleke caught fire at takeoff at Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), per a Leadership report, on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
The governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, is the brother of Chief Adeleke, who is also the father of singer David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido.
On the specified date, around 9 am, as the plane was about to take off from Lagos for Abuja, there was a fire incident, according to reports, at the airport’s domestic wing.
According to the report, the jet carrying Governor Adeleke and his aides was about to take off when a loud explosion was heard coming from the jet’s engine, forcing it to immediately abort takeoff.
The aircraft had been parked at the airport’s Executive Jet hangar prior to the anticipated takeoff, the report continued.
The CEO of Executive Jets, the company that owns the hangar where the private jet was parked, Sam Iwuajoku, revealed that the Chief Adeleke’s private jet had FOD, or foreign object damage, which caused the aircraft to experience high temperature and cause an explosion.
“A bird nest was found in one of the aircraft’s engines, which is why the engine overheated during takeoff.
Birds will build their nest inside an unprotected aircraft when it is parked, and anything they bring inside the aircraft can cause a high temperature to develop.
“Sam Iwuajoku said to the newspaper.
We had to remove the engine from one of my aircraft in 2021, and the engine spent 14 months in Germany.
Therefore, it is common in Africa because there are birds there, he said.
