The Yala Local Government Area of the state of Cross River now has a dusk-to-dawn curfew in effect for the communities of Ugaga, Igbekurekor, Benekaba, and Ijama.
Following clashes between the four communities, Governor Bassey Otu instituted the curfew to prevent further loss of lives and property while allowing security agencies to handle the situation.
In a statement, Otu’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Ogbeche, said;.
Following boundary and land disputes that have resulted in security threats and wanton destruction of lives and property, the curfew is required.
“I hereby impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the Benekaba, Ujama, Igbekurekor, Ugaga, and Yala Local Government Areas.
The curfew is in place to give security agencies the opportunity to take decisive action to address the situation in the affected communities and return things to normal.

Otu gave the State Emergency Management Agency instructions to plan an immediate intervention in terms of supplies for the crisis’ victims.
