Bishop David Abioye, the spiritual leader of Living Faith Church International, commonly known as Winners Chapel, inaugurated his sermon at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos.
During the funeral service dedicated to the late founding pastor of the church, Taiwo Odukoya, held on a Saturday, Abioye eloquently portrayed Odukoya’s life journey. He likened Odukoya’s entrance into the world to that of a student embarking on a new educational journey, much like being admitted to a university.
Furthermore, Bishop Abioye drew an inspiring parallel between Odukoya’s life and the academic path of a university student. He emphasized that, like a diligent student who successfully completes various courses and graduates, Odukoya had completed his life’s journey with distinction.
The funeral service started at 11am.
Dignitaries on Friday attended the service of songs and night of tributes organised in Odukoya’s honour.
Among them were Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the immediate past Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo; Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Rev. Sam Adeyemi, and Peterson Okopi.
Odukoya died on Tuesday, August 7, 2023, in the United States of America, at the age of 67.
He is survived by five children, and six grand-children.
On Sunday, a thanksgiving service will be held at the church to signal the end of the funeral.
The preacher’s death comes less than two years after his 47-year-old South African wife, Nomthi Odukoya, died. She died in November 2021 after a two-year battle with cancer.
