A statement from the Lagos State Parking Authority explains why a woman’s car was impounded on Friday, September 8 in the parking lot of a pharmacy on Allen Avenue in Ikeja.
Adebisi Adelabu, the general manager of the agency, claimed in a statement that the pharmacy where the woman had parked her car had declined to pay their annual Corporate Parking/Set Back Levy, which is why the woman’s car was clamped.
A popular video being shared by the Health Plus Pharmacy in Allen, Ikeja, has caught the attention of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA).
In order to incite public outrage against government employees performing their legally mandated duties, the video purposefully presents facts incorrectly.
The problems that resulted in the car’s tyre being clamped while it was parked in front of the Health Plus building are described below in order to clear up any confusion.
In order to prevent indiscriminate parking along roads and setbacks in the State, the Lagos State Parking Authority was established as a regulatory body to oversee private and commercial facilities.
• The Authority sent demand notices for the Y2023 parking levies to private and public corporate entities, including Health Plus Pharmacy, in December 2022.
The Authority then sent out reminders, which the defaulting entities duly acknowledged.
• The officers in the video were there for a final visit to collect payments for legitimate levies owed to the Lagos State Government.
It is clear that the officials conducted themselves during the exercise in a non-confrontational and professional manner.
• As a sign of our institution’s transparency, all demand notices that have been served to the company and properly acknowledged are presented to members here.
By using false information and fake news to avoid paying taxes and other levies owed to the government, unpatriotic individuals will not stop LASPA from carrying out its regulatory function.
For the avoidance of doubt, anyone caught spreading lies intentionally in an effort to discredit government officials in Lagos State engaged in monitoring and compliance activities will face legal consequences.
