A National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Bayelsa State has dismissed Fred Agbedi, a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency.
A panel that presided over the petition EPT/BY/HR/01/2023 submitted by Michael Olomu, the APC candidate, ordered INEC to hold a second election within 90 days in some of the polling places and wards in the Sagbama and Ekeremor LGAs where the process was marred by violence and other irregularities.
The panel determined that INEC’s material non-compliance with the Electoral Act of 2022 affected the results of the elections in the named polling units and wards.
Additionally, it identified 17 polling places in Ekeremor LGA’s Wards 10, 11, and 12; six in Ward 11; and all of the polling places in Sagbama LGA’s Ward 5 as areas that needed to be rerun within 90 days.
According to the panel, there are 26, 471 registered voters in the affected wards and polling units in both LGAs who lost their right to vote as a result of violence and other irregularities.
