The governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended a young man by the name of Yusuf Sulaiman Sumaila for returning the salary that was paid into the government coffers using his deceased father’s account.
Sumaila’s father passed away in October 2022, but the state continued to pay his salary until August 2023, according to a statement from Abdullahi Ibrahim, the senior special assistant to the governor on digital media. He claimed that after discovering the error, Samaila informed the state government of his father’s passing and returned the salary, which came to N328, 115.75.
Yusuf claimed that after his father passed away in October 2022, the state continued paying his salary into his account until August 2023, when he formally requested that it cease. Yusuf also requested that the 328,115.75 backlog be returned to the government, which the governor accepted with thanks and a personal invitation to the governor’s office.
The governor made a statement in which he praised Yusuf for his admirable deed and urged other young people to follow in his footsteps and uphold the importance of honesty.
