FG raises the cost of electricity meter.

A price increase for the nation’s prepaid electricity meters has been approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)

A single phase pre-paid meter will now cost N81,975.16k instead of N58,661.69k, according to a circular signed and dated September 5 by the commission’s chairman and commissioner of legal, licensing, and compliance, respectively, Sanusi Garba and Dafe Akpeneye.

The cost of three phase pre-paid meters has also increased, from N109,684.36k to N143,836.10k.

The new price, according to the circular, will guarantee that meters are priced fairly and reasonably for both MAPs and end-use customers.

The circular says, in part.

“Ensure MAP’s capacity to recover reasonable expenses related to meter acquisition and upkeep while ensuring that their pricing model permits a workable return on investment.

In order to avoid excessive pricing that might burden end users, evaluate the affordability of meter services for consumers.

Make sure that MAPs can provide meters to end-use customers given the current economic conditions.

”.
