In Adamawa, police stop a businessman from being kidnapped and disarm one suspect.

A businessman was abducted in the state’s Gombi Local Government Area, but police officers from the Adamawa State Police Command managed to stop it.

SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngioroje, the command’s spokesperson, reported that police operatives neutralized one of the suspected kidnappers and found a locally-made pistol, three cartridges, $2,730 in cash, and charms.

The statement read, “On June 9, 2023, the Command Operatives attached to Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, in sustained effort with hunters of Sarki Baka Gombi, foiled an organized crime to kidnap one Gideon Bitrus, a resident of Jangra Village, Gombi local government area.

“These successes were the result of reliable information a good Samaritan provided about organized crime.

Following the receipt of the information, the command set up a security perimeter around the intended victim and, in a stroke of luck, engaged the alleged kidnappers, preventing them from carrying out the crime.

“The five gang members were involved in a gunfight; one was neutralized while the others managed to flee with gunshot wounds.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, while commending DPO Gombi, his men, and hunters for gallant performance displayed resulting in crime prevention, also directs them to sustain the tempo as a strategy for crime fighting.”.

The CP urges the public to report criminals’ whereabouts and hiding places to the police at all times, especially if they are seen tending wounds.

The police chief also assured the government and good citizens of Adamawa state of the police’s ongoing efforts to safeguard citizens’ lives and property.
