Despite the financial hardship brought on by the removal of fuel subsidies, the Senate has stated that there are no expenses that need to be reduced.
On Monday, August 4, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, told journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, that the National Assembly was not to blame for any economic difficulties that Nigeria was going through.
Insisting that demands for lawmakers to reduce expenses are invalid, he listed what he called a number of cogent roles—including committee work and oversight roles—that they perform without any compensation.
Adaramodu made the comments shortly after the tribunal upheld his victory in the election against Senator Biodun Olujimi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), an All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart.
