The NLC refuses to attend a meeting with the federal government and insists on starting a warning strike tomorrow.

A meeting called by the federal government to discuss the proposed two-day warning strike that is scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, was boycotted by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday evening.

Simon Lalong, Minister of Labor and Employment, called the meeting after earlier pleading with organized labor to prevent the impending strike.

In advance of the warning strike, many of the NLC’s affiliate groups have already finished mobilizing.

Festus Osifo, the national president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), however, was present for the meeting behind closed doors with the federal government.

In protest against the Federal Government’s failure to address the issues Nigerians are facing as a result of the removal of fuel subsidies, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announced last week that it would go on a two-day warning strike starting on Tuesday, September 5.
