DSS Detains Ogun LG Chairman Who Accused Abiodun Of Fund Diversion

The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken into custody Wale Adedayo, the suspended chairman of Ijebu-East Local Government Area. This action follows his allegations that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State diverted federal allocation meant for the state’s local governments over the past two years.

On a Friday morning around 11:45 am, Mr. Adedayo voluntarily reported to the DSS facility located near the governor’s office in Oke-Imosan, Abeokuta, in response to an invitation from the secret police, as reported by various sources.

It’s worth noting that Governor Abiodun also had a meeting with Mr. Adedayo during his time at the DSS facility.

“The DSS has detained Wale Adedayo just now. They asked us to leave, that they’re not ready to interrogate him yet,” a family source was quoted to have said.

Adedayo, in a letter written to former governor, Olusegun Osoba, on Sunday, alleged inter alia that over N10.8bn fund of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme was also diverted by the governor.

He also petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, urging the institution to investigate the allegations against the governor.

On Thursday morning, seven councillors of the local government led by their leader, Fasheyi Adesuji, from Itele Ward 7 announced Adedayo had been suspended for three months over what they described as “maladministration and financial mismanagement”.

The lawmakers listed about 15 financial infractions against the LG boss including using N8.2 million to procure 20 tables and chairs for the primary schools as well as misappropriation of N35 million among others.
