Tinubu Not Considering Me As CBN Governor, Says Elumelu

Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of both UBA Group and Heirs Holdings, has firmly refuted the assertion that President Bola Tinubu is contemplating his appointment as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) governor.

This news emanated from Imran Muhammad, a member of the All Progressives Congress and a staunch supporter of former President Muhammadu Buhari. On June 12, via a post on X, Muhammad claimed that an inside source suggested, “President Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN governor.”

In response to this post, Mr. Elumelu promptly addressed the matter on a Friday, categorically dismissing it as false information.

“LOL. No, please. This is false news!” he wrote.

Elumelu, on Tuesday, paid a visit to Tinubu at Aso Villa, Abuja.

It was the first time the businessman would be visiting the president since he was sworn in May.

Speaking on the purpose of his visit, Elumelu said his discussion with Tinubu was private.

However, he declared that leaders in the private sector are encouraged by the government’s policies.

He said, “The private sector is encouraged by the bold decisions of President Bola Tinubu and we hope that in the fullness of time, Nigerians will benefit.

“It’s all about Nigerian people, it’s all about youths, it’s all about making sure our women are involved and empowered. It’s about making sure our youths get jobs and I think Mr. President has this at the back of his mind.”
