Sulaiman Jika, a dedicated police cadet, tragically passed away while attending the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, located in Kano State.
Mr. Jika was pursuing his cadet training within the Department of Computer Science at the academy when this unfortunate incident occurred.
His untimely demise took place on a sorrowful Saturday right within the premises of the esteemed police academy.
The police academy said the deceased, who hailed from Adamawa state, died after a “brief and unexpected illness”.
However, it was reported that his colleagues said he died after being “continuously starved and malnourished for over two weeks” at the academy.
The newspaper reported that some cadets accused Sadiq Abubakar, commandant of the police academy, of allegedly rationing feeding allowance.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hussain Suleman, spokesperson of the academy, said the deceased sought medical treatment at the academy clinic on August 29 and was treated.
Suleman said the medical doctor at the clinic asked the deceased to return for further assessment at regular intervals
“Fate took an unforeseen turn on 2nd September 2023. He was once again admitted to the clinic for further examination and care following a complaint of restlessness,” the statement reads.
“Though his vitals were normal upon examination and all necessary medical steps were taken, we regrettably report his untimely passing.”
The police academy was however silent on the allegation of starvation
