Drivers and passengers plying the Effurun/Ughelli section of the East-West road leading to Ughelli in Delta State have lamented the deplorable state of the road by the Effurun roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
They said they spend hours on a journey from Effurun roundabout to Ughelli, a journey of not more than 30 minutes if the conditions were right.
In a chat with DAILY POST, a driver, simply identified as Solomon, complained that his Toyota Picnic had been at a mechanic workshop for over a week. He added that his family struggles to feed as the vehicle is his source of livelihood. He expressed fear that the same fate may repeat itself if he plies the road again with his vehicle, explaining that he spent over N35,000 in repairs.
Another driver, simply identified as Ejaeta, said there is nothing anyone could do about it other than to beg the President to help repair the road.
A passenger, identified as Layefa, who returned from Ughelli this morning said he had been on the deplorable road for over two hours as a result of the gridlock it usually causes.
He said, “Federal Government should come and help us. Na beg we dey. This is too painful for us to bear. President Tinubu, come and help us repair this road by Effurun roundabout.”
Our correspondent, who was on the road as early as 7:30 a.m., reports that the axis of the road leading to Sapele/Benin City is also bad as drivers and passengers are also groaning.
The Effurun roundabout is the gateway from Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, and Benin City, Edo State capital, into Warri and its environs
