A 15-year-old boy named Ibrahim was detained by the police in the state of Bauchi for allegedly chopping off the hand of a farmer after a dispute over the invasion and destruction of the victim’s farmland at Gital village, located along the Bauchi Gombe road.
Ibrahim allegedly let his cows graze on the farmer’s property, causing the crops to be destroyed, according to SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, a spokesman for the police command. According to the victim’s farmer, the suspect had repeatedly trespassed onto his property while rearing his cows, according to the preliminary results of the investigation.
“The unfortunate incident happened after the victim complained to the suspect’s father on several occasions about the suspect’s intrusion into his rice farmland. The suspect, who was armed with a stick and a machete, sneakily invaded the victim’s farmland on August 24, 2023, according to the investigation, and destroyed crops with an unknown value.
After arguing with the victim, who was being asked to leave his farmland, the suspect stabbed him. As a result, the victim’s left hand was severed. The victim’s left hand was amputated by the suspect after he pulled out his machete, he claimed.
Following receipt of the report, Metropolitan, the Area Commander, reportedly sprang into action, activated additional measures to prevent a repeat in the area, and ordered the arrest of the suspect. He claimed that the victim was receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi after being taken there urgently for medical attention.
Wakil added that CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, the state’s commissioner of police, issued an advisory cautioning people against trespassing into farmlands but also ordered that the suspect be charged with an offense after a covert investigation was finished.
