The Omega Power Ministry (OPM) has refuted allegations that its founder, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, fathered a child with a 22-year-old woman.
A woman named Loveth claimed in a widely circulated video that Chinyere engaged in a sexual relationship with her, resulting in her pregnancy.
She claimed the incident happened sometime in March and April 2019 when she was 18 years old and engaged to be married to someone.
According to Loveth, the OPM founder refused to use protection she got him with the money he gave her.
She also claimed he instructed her to pin the pregnancy on the person she was to marry.
But the church described the allegations as blackmail.
One of the officials who did not want her name mentioned told BBC Pidgin that a young man who did not get financial assistance which he sought from Chinyere connived with Loveth to make the allegations.
“Because he wants to tarnish the man’s image, he went as far as turning himself to blogger (to circulate false claims),” the official said in a report published on Wednesday.
On the allegation that Loveth lived in Chinyere’s house in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the official said it was a lie.
Chinyere had yet to personally respond to the matter on Facebook as of press time.
He, however, shared the link to a story published by Leadership Newspapers on August 22.
The story said some journalists held a media parley in Abuja where they expressed concerns about attempts to blackmail the clergyman.
At the parley, Chris Aku and Ogbonna Lucky said they refused to be manipulated for bad purposes.
They said some people approached them to write damaging reports about Chinyere.
