A certain lawyer, Mr Jude Nwokoro has been sued for illegal practice as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
According to information made available to IgbereTV, Nwokoro, who hails from Agbagwu Community in Arochukwu Abia State, has been engaged in legal practice for years.
Strangely though, his law practice has allegedly not been backed up with a legal practice licence —he has not been called to bar by the Body of Benchers of Nigerla who has the sole legal authority to call the successful candidates of the Nigerlan Law School to the Bar to enable them practice as Solicitors and Advocates of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Therefore, the Agbagwu Community, along with other plaintiffs — Mazi Goddy Okoro Ulu Ivi, Mazi Ukpabi Anwah, and Mazi Catchist Okpo has dragged him to the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Port Harcourt Division.
The case claim is based on Allegation of Fraud Order 3 Rule 2B & C OF The Federal High Court of Nigeria (Civil Procedure Rules, 2019).
According to the case, with Suit NO: FHC/PH/CS/ between the plaintiffs (The Agbagwu Progressive Union INC, Mazi Goddy Okoro Ulu Ivi, Mazi Ukpabi Anwah, Mazi Catchist Okpo) and defendants (Jude Nwokoro (ESQ), Council Of Legal Education, Body of Benchers of Nigeria), the 1st defendant, in the person of Jude Nwokoro was never called to the Nigerian Bar by the Body of Benchers of Nigeria at anytime.
They also urged the Court to restrain and stop him from practicing as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in any court in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They revealed that the 1st defendant had boasted that nothing will happen and that the plaintiffs can report to anywhere or to anybody. They further alleged that he had vowed to continue with this act of illegality except he is restralned by this Honourable Court.
The plaintiffs asked the court to honour the following prayers:
1. An Order of the Honourable Court that it is only a person duly called to the Bar in Nigeria by the Body of Benchers that can practice Law in Nigeria;
2. An Order that the 1st defendant being known as Jude Nwokoro was not called to the Bar in Nigeria and has no right to practice as a legal practitioner in Nigeria under any guise;
3. An Order that the 1st defendant having not been called to the Bar as required by the Law should be stopped from parading himself as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Interestingly, the second plaintiff who is spearheading this legal battle is the family head of Jude Nwokoro’s family.
Efforts to speak with Jude Nwokoro proved abortive as his known phone number was not reachable as at press time.
