Truck driver is fatally stabbed by officials of the Enugu Revenue Collection Agency after arguing with them about a N2,000 levy.

A fight broke out when the driver refused to pay the additional N2,000 fine the officials had imposed for arguing with them.

According to reports, employees of the Enugu State government’s revenue agency fatally stabbed a truck driver at Ugwuoba along the Enugu-Onitsha highway. According to information gathered by igberetv, the incident began when the employees, who charge a tax on farm products and livestock, stopped a driver who was allegedly transporting food from northern Nigeria at Ugwuoba in the state’s Oji River Local Government Area.

The driver was instructed to bring N3,000 by the government officials. He (the driver) reportedly objected and offered to pay N2,500, which the officials declined, sparking a dispute. After some arguing, he later paid the N3,000, but some of the officials refused it and demanded that he pay them N5,000 instead, according to a driver named Celestine Okafor for SaharaReporters.

According to Okafor, the driver got into a fight because he refused to pay the additional N2,000 the officials demanded after arguing with them.

One of the revenue collectors fatally stabbed the driver after the officials had dragged him out of his car and started beating him. “.

According to information gathered by Igberetv, other truckers blocked the Enugu-Onitsha highway for several hours following the death of the driver, resulting in gridlock.

The incident was confirmed by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the state police command’s spokesperson, when igberetv contacted him.

He did point out that the incident did not occur on Tuesday, though.

But not today, it happened. It didn’t happen today, though I don’t yet know the specifics. He said, “I believe that incident took place on Thursday.

According to a previous report by Igberetv, the state government has outlawed all types of tolls and levy collections on state-owned roads and highways.

In a PSA released by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. On Sunday, Chidiebere Onyia stated that his “administration views with utmost displeasure the activities of those who constitute a nuisance on our roads and deploy all manner of crude tactics to extort money from vehicles transporting goods, farm produce, and livestock in the state, in the name of a collection of levies and tolls on behalf of the government.”.

He issued a warning that such activities on highways and roads go against his government’s resolve to remove barriers to the state’s business-friendliness.

“The restriction is in place right away.

To enforce the ban, a task force has been created.

The governor declared, “Going forward, anyone caught in the unlawful act shall be prosecuted.”.
