By every standard rating the Falcons of Nigeria and African last hope put up a 5 star performance today, to be able to beat co hosts Australia by 3-2 in Brisbane.
The Falcons had to come from behind to secure the sweet victory over Australia as they equalized on 50minutes dot of the extra minutes of the first half, in what soccer fans tagged a miracle goal.
Australia went ahead through Van Edmond late in the first half only for the Falcons to respond before the end of the half.
The Falcons returned in the second half firing on all cylinders and got their goals courtesy of the efforts of Kanu and Oshoala. The referee in what global and especially African fans saw as an attempt to favour host nation, added 11 minutes extra time to see if the host equalize. Though a late goal by Australia contributed in piling up tension to soccer fans, but it didn’t change anything as the encounter ended 3-2.
With the victory, the Super Falcons climb to the top of their group and would need only a draw against Ireland in their last game of the group to land in the second round.
