Hundreds of civil servants on friday besieged the office of the Abia State accountant General over refusal by the state government to pay their legitimate Salaries because of claims that they are ghost workers, Igbere TV has learnt.
The Abia State Government had within the week in a press release by the states commissioner for information claimed that they have discovered over 2,300 ghost workers in the government’s payroll and had saved over 600 million naira.
This action by the civil servants have placed doubts on the claim by the Otti administration as those who they claimed were ghost workers constitutes of genuine civil servants who were denied their may and April salaries
It is believed that the consultants hired by the State government were on a brief to justify governors Otti’s insistence on the sack of Abia workers in an effort to downsize the workforce.
The workers are saying that the so called millions saved by Gov. Otti are in deed the sweat of Abia workers who are now subjected to hunger by a government that came with the mantra “Abians don’t cry anymore that help is on the way”
